The federal response to the COVID-19 pandemic temporarily eliminated Medicaid churn under the Families First Coronavirus Response Act (FFCRA) by prohibiting states from disenrolling Medicaid members.
The protection the FFCRA currently provides will change once the federal public health emergency (PHE) ends, putting a significant number of Medicaid members at risk for disenrollment and loss of their Medicaid coverage, resulting in the resumption of churn within the Medicaid population. This coverage cliff could potentially be one of the biggest disruptions and largest disenrollments in program history.
In this session attendees will learn:
- Best practices for health plan member outreach to prepare for the unwinding of the PHE
- Tactics for building trust and approaching member engagement from a whole-person perspective through a health equity lens
- Engagement strategies for members with limited English proficiency, who make up a disproportionate share of the Medicaid population and are more likely to experience administrative barriers
